Just finished this one up. Man, I'm really feeling lazy now. Speaking of feeling lazy, the ideal lazy time for me is Sunday afternoon (didn't you play a song about that?). I have always loved laying down on the sofa on a Sunday afternoon with an old western movie playing on the tv. That's perfect. It's something about the background sound that it provides.

Lazy Susan? My ex-wife's name is Susan, so I'll say no more about that.

Golden Pell goes to..............

....maybe I should have you guess it. But then again, this is an old show and you may not remember what you played. So I'll tell you, it's Gordon Lightfoot and Lazy Morning. That song is fantastic. And it made me want to kick my chair out of the way and lay right down on the floor for a nap. Do you know what studio album that song is on?

Interesting opener, playful show? Like I said earlier, the Warren Hayes is a great track, from a cool album, (pick it up if you havent yet) - and the emotional Doobies video and tune, nice work picking tracks, 3 for 3!

Fever Tree doesnt ring a bell, but Ive been the Height Asbury several times. First time was around 72 with my Dad, he wasnt a hippie, but he loved to peole watch there and china town. I was 7 so what did I know. Our home movies are littered with cameos from sidewalk vendors and hippies willing to smile and give us the peace sign to the camera. Great memories!

Is it too late to email for the CD? hahaha

Love Simons lyrics! He hasnt lost his touch, great tune! Pairing this with a band named "the boxer rebellion" didnt go unnoticed by this listener. :-)

Liked that Hiatt tune, interesting vocal style.

Love the show Michael! Some real special tracks here, I hope everyone checks out that Doobies video!!!

The site and I got a shout out!!! That was too cool! Thank you sir!

RJ,
They were the good ole days.
I have talked before about how with records you were an active participant.
The theater of having to get up and turn the record over.
Not to mention the considerations of the artist as to how to close side one...and open side two!
No more...it's all one long stream.
Your idea for CD album is a good one, until then I'll have to keep playing actual records, lol!
I think I liked that first song...wasn't that the one that sounded like the Wilburys?
Hey the tension of scrolling down...waiting for the Golden Pell...was almost too much, lol!
Night Driver is an excellent choice.
Thanks for listening and writing bro,
Mike

RJ,
Yes I guess that feature can be interesting when you've never heard the album, or not in a long time.
But like I said, any dope can do that, lol!
Not much room for creativity, so I tried to ad lib some life into it.
Full Moon Fever is a dynamite album.
And another you got is hush hush eh, gonna make it onto the site so we can all hear it...nice!
The 2nd half will be here soon, and there is a song that sounds like the Traveling Wilburys did it.
We like the same songs so far, and The Golden Pell for Square One is a good choice.
All that talking between songs only serves to enhance the experience, lol!
Actually I was pretty damn funny on this show, I liked the line about my dreadlocks being caught in the headphones.
I don't have enough hair for dreadlocks!!!
Thanks for the listen, my Highway Companion,
Mike

Mike,

I dig it when you feature a particular album for a show, especially one like this that I've never heard. In my life before about 2 weeks ago, I had only owned one Petty studio album, and that would be Full Moon Fever. Well, I lost that along the way somewhere, so I just re-purchased it a couple of weeks ago.

I also purchased an older album of his yesterday, but I won't say which one because it will make an appearance in the AOTW forum sometime this year. One other of his that I'd like to have is Hard Promises.

As far as this one goes, it's definitely not bad. Out of the first 6 songs, I have 2 okays 9 (Down South/Jack), 1 not bad (Flirting With Time), 2 nice (Saving Grace/Turn This Car Around) and 1 very nice (Square One).

Of course, I might hear it totally different if not for all the talking between songs (I kid).

Mike,

Hey bro! I think side two is even better than side one...wait a minute, I mean the second half of the CD is better than the first half. You know what, I really miss flipping that album. Those were the good ole days. You knew that you were getting anywhere from 15-20 minutes of music per album side, and if you didn't have time to listen to the whole dang thing, then you could just listen to one side, which usually flowed well anyway. Somebody, I mean this, needs to invent and market the CD album. You pop it in the CD player, after the first 4-6 songs play, it pops back out and you flip it. It would never happen, but it would be ultra cool.

Back to Petty, like I said, this half was better to me. I liked every song except the first one, although I didn't hate it. All the other songs were really strong. Of course, one really stood out, so the Golden Pell goes to..................................................................

Night Driver. Way cool song. I might just pick this album/CD up. Thanks for the entertainment.

Diane,
It's new to me too- that's one of the oldest shows I still have and I hadn't heard it since I did it.
And I can't even find a copy of the CD...that damned Engineer Ken must have kept it, lol!
Listening to both halves, I was pretty funny that day.
Computer problems are worked out, and I think the recording equipment is alright.
It's just a matter of me getting the urge to do somethng new.
Hopeless romantic that I am, I hope I can REMEMBER to have a show for Valentine's Day, lol!

And I'm so hoping your get your computer problems worked out by Valentine's Day, because this hopelessly romantic valentine is looking forward to that music!

And I ****** hate this Windows 7- compared to XP it sucks big time!

See, the trouble with some censorship is it makes it seem like I used a word worse than the one that I actually had there.
Surprising to see that.
Another example:
Mary had a little ****, its **** was **** as ****!
The proudly profane (but not THAT much, lol!),

Ed,
Hey man, I won't print a playlist, you sure as hell know I'm not gonna do links too, lol!
I seek those astute listeners, and am eternally grateful for them with all my heart.
It is that trust between us that I still work toward developing with each show.
This show was not new, and was from early Summer 2009.
Thanks for the listen and writing my friend, and continued good programming on your part,

I like your comments about shownotes. I've often felt that way myself, but nowadays have gotten over it so the artists (mostly indie) get links. I figure if the listener wants to ruin his listening experience by having advance knowledge of my playlist, that's their problem. The more astute listener will, hopefully, listen first and then go back to checkout the shownotes.I'm a bit confused though, was this show from 2009 or Jan. 2012?

Diane,
No, I am not back yet.
But I went back to XP.
One reason being I collect Minisdisc players & recorders and Windows 7 doesn't
support them.
Mostly I don't like the fact that Microsoft can arbitrarily determine what we
use..."You'll take it and LIKE it"!
Screw that crap..and computers too.

RJ,
It might be about time alright!
However, I have to bring the computer back.
For some reason, the sound card won't work in the back, only in the front which is causing me static when I record a show.
The freakin' thing is making me want to go back to my previous life without computers.
While I didn't have one, I was reading and enjoying TV, doing things with no obligations.
This show is from the days when I went to the station and had Engineer Ken and all kinds of broadcasting equipment.
Now I do the show from home, so if the craputer goes out I got nothing.
That was admittedly a brilliant choice on my part to open with that Kinks song, lol!
It is just not played enough, whereas the Steely Dan Do It Again is overplayed, but we were thinking alike cause I couldn't leave it out if I wanted to do those 3 decades.
The Beach Boys tune I thought I would catch people by surprise.
I agree with the Golden Pell for The Kinks.
Honestly I was concentrating on songs with Return in them, and totally overlooked Aerosmith’s “Back In The Saddle”.
It is an excellent choice I could have ended the show with, but I usually play that song after I've had sex with a woman, lol!
Thanks for welcoming me back bro, but I am not at all comfortable yet.

Mike, it’s about time! I thought you had left us. Glad I was wrong.

Great start to the show with The Kinks. That song fits perfectly. And it goes without saying, although I’ll say it anyway, I need to purchase some Kinks material. Funny thing is, as that song was about to end, I jotted down “Steely Dan/Do It Again” on my notepad, thinking, that would also be a perfect song here. Low and behold, we must be thinking alike at least occasionally ‘cause you played it next. And that song has one of the most unique and totally cool guitar solos ever.

It’s been a long time since I’ve heard that Beach Boys tune, so I’m really glad you played it. It’s short but sweet!

Everything else was totally new to me.

All that being said, I’ll send a Golden Pell out to The Kinks for “Do It Again”. Nicely done.

One song I was expecting was Aerosmith’s “Back In The Saddle”. Seems like that one would fit well with the theme.

Glad you’re back bro!

Diane,
Just got a new computer, and I don't know this damn new Windows 7, feeling my way around.
I was without anything for a long time.
And it's incredible how much you LOSE in the process.
Free as a Bird & Real Love were NEW songs from those Lennon tapes Yoko gave the Lads!
Nice you are catching up (and I am so far behind I can't see, lol), and thanks for the good work compliment.
My Mind Games are hurting my head, lol!
Happy New Year!
